The common understanding in main stream conversation is that the Term “Solar Power” refers to electricity generated from Solar panels using the Photo Voltaic (PV) effect.

The actual meaning refers to any form of energy derived from the sun. This includes PV generated electricity, Solar thermal energy (water heating) and Concentrated Solar Power.

PV Solar Power

This is the power created by converting solar energy into electricity using the photo voltaic effect in solar cells.

Solar Thermal Energy

This refers to the energy stored on the form of heat, typically in a solar geyser to heat water from the sun.

Concentrated solar power

This is a form of Solar Thermal Energy used for large scale solar power generation by heating a secondary chemical compound which drives steam turbines to produce power.
