Grid Tie systems will stop the production of electricity. This is due to the fact that most safety standards require the system to disconnect from the utility grid in the event of a grid failure. More importantly, in most grid tie systems, the PV system is meant to augment the power supply of the consumer which means that the PV system capacity is insufficient to power the consumer loads. This is further complicated be previously mentioned factors which influences the production of a PV system.

Hybrid systems can maintain the production of power provided the secondary generator can maintain the base load in the system. When a battery system is combined with such a system, part of the energy will be supplied from the batteries depending on the PV generation capacity.
